In 2014 it was Maritzburg College who took the SA School Basketball scene by storm as they ruthlessly brushed aside all comers to deservedly finish as the leading team in the country and take the number one spot on the SA School Sports Basketball Rankings.

A great win by KES over Pretoria Boys High and a solid performance by Maritzburg College are some of the good victories that came out of last week’s basketball results from around the country.

Basketball: This Past Week's Results

We are looking forward to a competitive basketball season in 2015 with plenty matches and tournaments planned that will hopefully ensure that the sport reaches a high level.

With the school basketball season winding down to a close we take a closer a look at how the various teams have fared during 2014 and where they find themselves on the SA School Sports Top 25 Rankings.

Maritzburg College remain top of the rankings despite going down in a shock result to Westville who caught the Pietermaritzburg team perhaps with too many matches in the legs after their St.John’s College tournament triumph.

Westville sent a message out last week that they are a team to be reckoned with and arguably one of the stronger teams in the country when they beat the high flying Maritzburg College team.

SA school sports magazine caught up with the St John’s U18 International Basketball tournament MVP from Maritzburg College, Thozamile Sineke, after his side had managed to make history and clinch their first St John’s Basketball tournament title beating St Albans in the final.
